Dr. Thomas J. Beggins, M.D.

Tom is the Senior Attending Physician at his private practice in Middletown, CT. In 2005 Tom returned from Lusaka, Zambia where he served as the Medical Director and Surgeon at the Lusaka Eye Hospital. The newly built hospital, which is supported by CBMI and the WHO, is the only eye hospital in Zambia. His Connecticut practice opened in 1991 has expanded to include two associates. Tom also serves as a Senior Attending Surgeon Hartford Hospital Surgery Center in Newington, CT and the Senior Attending Ophthalmic Surgeon at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, CT. Tom attended medical school at New York Medical College and earned a B.A in psychology from Boston University. Tom completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, NY. He performed his residency in Ophthalmology at St.Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital in New York, NY where he was also the chief resident. While Tom was in Lusaka, he spent two weeks at Kikuyu Eye Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya performing retinal surgeries so that he could offer this type of surgery that was previously not available in Zambia.

Tom is a member of the Connecticut Society of Eye Physicians, the Connecticut State Medical Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, SEE International Society, and has served as the President, Vice President and Secretary for the Middlesex County Medical Society. He is involved with numerous civic organizations including the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce, the Lions Club of Middlesex County, and the Connecticut Society to Prevent Blindness and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Tom’s volunteer work also includes supporting the Clinic, Notre Dame de Lourdes in Port-au Prince, Haiti where he has organized and established an ophthalmic surgical and clinical facility; managed the financing and fundraising for business and medical operations and performed surgeries. This is an ongoing project that employs a local, Haitian ophthalmologists’ to care for blind and visually impaired Haitians who cannot afford health care. Tom has worked as an eye surgeon in Anshan City, China; Mombassa, Kenya (with CBMI) and the Dominican Republic. Dr Beggins is now Certified in LenX Femto Laser surgery!

Dr. Anthony Salierno, M.D.

Dr. Anthony Salierno, M.D. is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist who is fellowship trained in refractive surgery. He specializes in LASIK and has performed over 20,000 refractive surgery procedures. Dr. Salierno was named Resident of the Year in Teaching in 1999 and was also named Chief Resident during his residency at Montefiore Medical Center. He received his Medical Degree from New York Medical College while graduating in the top 10% of his class and with honors. Dr. Salierno received his undergraduate degree in engineering while graduating with Cum Laude honors.

Dr. Meghan Kelleman, OD

Dr. Meghan Kelleman earned her Doctorate of Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University, in Philadelphia, PA.  She is Residency trained in Ocular Disease and Primary Care from the VA Connecticut Healthcare System, in Newington, CT. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, Connecticut Association of Optometrists, Gold Key Honor Society, and has received the prestigious Dr. Robert A. Kraskin Award for Excellence in Scholarly Research for her research in the behavioral concept of macular degeneration.

Dr. Kelleman specializes in Primary Eye Care and Disease Management for patients of all ages, and is happy to see children as young as 5 years old. Her education also includes earning highest honors during the following internships: Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia, PA, Contact lens study at Wills Eye Hospital, Philadelphia, PA, Jamaica Plain VA Hospital, Boston, MA, Sinclair Retina Associates, Media, PA, and Pediatric Care at The Eye Institute, Philadelphia, PA.

Dr. Kelleman is a lifelong resident of Connecticut and a University of Connecticut alumnae. She is a member of the West Hartford Women’s Chorale and a volunteer for the Connecticut Easter Seals. In her spare time, Dr. Kelleman likes to play softball and hike with her husband, Michael, and their two daughters.
